Boston is a great place to get lost in for the day, however, the only downfall is that things can get pretty expensive here, this includes food and tourist attractions. After doing a lot of research, i have came up with a list of 11 free (and fun) things to do that will give you a taste of Boston's culture. If you have any questions about any of these activities feel free to check out the "Contact" tab and send me your questions/feedback, or go to the links provided.

11. Colt Observatory at Boston University

Get a chance to look through telescopes and see all the wonders of the night sky at this outdoor observatory. They are open every Wednesday night starting at 7:30pm during the winter and fall and 8:30pm during the spring and summer. It is suggested that you reserve tickets online (which is still free) before you go to guarantee admission.

10. Boston Harbor Walk

The Boston Harbor walk, you guessed it, is a pathway along Boston Harbor. It starts at the Christopher Columbus statue stoping at places like telescopes on long wharf, New England Aquarium, Northern ave bridge and it ends at Moakley Courthouse. Check out the full map of the walk here: http://www.audisseyguides.com/downtownharborwalk/

9. Bunkerhill Monument

Climb an entire 294 steps to the top of Bunker Hill monument to get some pretty awesome views of Boston. There is also a lot of history at here if you're into that kind of stuff! Just a quick note, because of high foot traffic and for safety reasons, you are required to get a climbing pass from the museum located down at the bottom of the hill (don't worry this pass is free). Check out the website for more info on planning your trip!

8. Tour the State House

The inside of the State house is beautiful because of its intricate architecture. You’ll also get to learn about the history of the state house. Tours are given weekdays 10:00am to 3:30pm. The tours last 30-45 min and it is suggested that you call ahead of time to schedule a tour! For more information go check out the website: https://www.sec.state.ma.us/trs/trsidx.htm

7. Tour the USS Constitution

Nicknamed “Old Ironsides”, the USS Constitution plays a huge part in Boston's history. During this tour you will learn how the ship earned its nickname and get a chance to snap some pretty cool photos! Technically it is free to come here but there is a suggested donation of $5-$10 because this is a non profit museum! Check out the website to learn more: https://ussconstitutionmuseum.org/visit/plan/

6. Boston Public Garden

As the first public botanical garden, it is located just inside Boston common. Here you can find monuments, fountains and of course over 80 different species of plants! I haven been here yet, but as a botany student i am very excited to see what they have growing here!

5. Harvard Tour

Led by undergrads, you'll get a glance at a day in the life of a typical Harvard student. You will be led through hahvahd yahd (masshole joke) and you will learn some of the history of the university. The tour typically lasts an hour. Note: this tour is a separate tour from prospective students, this is open to the public!

4. Seals at the New England Aquarium

I know your thinking that there is no way that you can get into the aquarium is free, and your right. However, before you enter, there is a seal exhibit that is open to the public for free. Its made of glass and you can see the seals swim around. Its definitely worth stoping by if you're in the area!

3. Quincy Market/ Faneuil Hall

Quincy Market and Faneuil Hall are good places to go if you like people watching. There is always a lot going on especially with street performers. There is also plenty of places to get food, which is obviously not free. I love going to Quincy Market and Faneuil Hall in the summer. I usually grab some lunch, find a spot outside to sit and eat and just watch all the performers and people. The north end is also a very close walk and is worth checking out especially if you have a sweet tooth, Mikes Pastries is the best!

2. Museum of Fine Arts

Usually, it costs money to get into the Museum of Fine Arts, but on Wednesday it is free entry from 4:00pm to 9:45pm. At the Museum of Fine Arts, you will fine exhibits on America, Europe, Asia, Africa and a ton more! Check out their website for more details.
