10 Free Things to do in New York City

New York City, also known as the city of dreams, is a place full of opportunity and adventure. When visiting, there are tons of cool tourist attractions but the only thing is, they will run your wallet dry. I haven't had a chance to visit here yet but it is definitely on my bucket list. This article is a research based article and it will also be good for my self (and anyone else planning to take a trip to the big apple) to glance at so i'll know what to do when i visit NYC and not break the bank. I will provide links to things that people might need more information on.

10. Central Park

I think this one is pretty obvious one but i think it is an important one as well. Central park is well known all over the world. Its not just an average park, there are plenty of things to do within such as having a picnic, taking a stroll, and much more. When visiting NYC i think that it would be wrong of anyone to not stop in Central Park!

9. Brooklyn Brewery Tours

This one is for people 21+ only. The Brooklyn Brewery offers free tours every Saturday (1pm-5pm) and Sunday (1pm-4pm) on every half an hour.

8. Grand Central Walking Tours

This tour is a 90 minute tour, conducted weekly and it requires no reservations. While on this tour, you will be taken through Grand Central neighborhood. You will learn about sites that are significant because of its history or architect.

7. New York Earth Room

When i came across this one, i knew i just had to put it in this blog. What this is a basically a room filled with 280,000 lbs of dirt. How crazy is this? This is an art exhibit so there are some rules and regulations to be followed when visiting which can be found on the website.

6. New York Aquarium

Admission isn't always free, but on Fridays if you get there between 3-3:30pm, admission is pay what you wish donation. Here you will find a variety different marine animals split up into numerous exhibits.

5. Brooklyn Botanical Garden

At the Brooklyn Botanical Garden, there are some days where there is an admission fee and some days it is free. Check the website linked for those hours. Here at the botanical garden you will find a variety of exhibits such as a herb garden, rock garden, orchid collection, tropical pavilion and much more.

4. Museum of Moving Image

Every Friday from 4:00pm - 8:00pm admission to this museum is free. While looking through the diffreent ehibits you will see things like nineteenth century optical toys to the latest in digital art.

3. The Staten Island Ferry

This ferry is a 5 mile 25 min ride that provides scenic view of New York. It runs from Staten Island to Manhattan. It is free to the public.

2. Bryant Park Yoga

Stop by Bryant park Tuesday mornings or Thursday evenings for some free relaxing outdoor yoga. Walk-ins are welcome but it is recommended that you RSVP to guarantee a spot!

1. Stargazing

Starting April 4th going to October 31st, Amateur Astronomers Association of New York set up high powered telescopes at Diller-von Furstenberg Sundeck, on the High Line at 14th St. These activities will take place starting at dusk.
